Students hit the airwaves

Students at Canterbury Christ Church university are taking to the airwaves.
Journalism and other media students at the university have been training at new radio station Academy FM in Folkstone.

The station, which officially launched on 31 March, has been taking advantage of the local curiosity for radio broadcast.

Those taking part were trained in news bulletin reading and also presenting radio shows. The up and coming presenters and news readers have been working at the station in between their studies gaining valuable experience.

The chance for experience in the world of media was greatly welcomed by local Kent students.

Beci Keys, a third year Journalism student has been enjoying her time at the station between her studies spoke of excitement and nerves after her first time presenting a show.

She said: “I was meant to be trained, but that person was ill, so I went straight into the deep end..

It seemed to work and I really enjoyed it once I relaxed behind the mic.”

The journalism student aspires to be a radio presenter after finishing her degree, and revelled at the chance to get some experience, after having a taste in 2010 when she did work experience.

Miss Keys has now been given a regular spot at the station along with other students from Westminster and Christ Church.
